Harriet, known as Nelly, was Michael and Caroline’s second child. She was born in Emerald on the 16th of March, 1880. She married Jack Wakefield in 1900. Jack’s parents owned the ‘Emu Park Hotel’, which later was extended and renamed ‘The Riviera Hotel’.
Nelly and Jack had six children: May, Billy, Isabel, Marjorie, Jackie and Cedric. The family lived in Emu Park.
Nelly was a quiet woman and a great baker. Her nephew Fred recalls the numerous times he was recruited to catch possums in her roof.
